PDF Reader ("we", "our", or "us"), provided by Blobatic, is a PDF reader and document toolkit for Android. You can use it to open and read PDFs, search and bookmark pages, scan documents and QR codes with your camera, create PDFs from photos, and rearrange, split, compress, convert, and password-protect PDFs. This policy outlines how information is handled when you use the PDF Reader mobile application.
1. Your Documents
Processed on Your Device: Every PDF you open and every document you scan, create, edit, convert, compress, split, protect, or unlock is processed on your device. Your documents, their contents, and the text you search for are never uploaded to us or shared with third parties.
Files the App Creates: Documents you create or convert are saved in the app's private storage, or in a location you choose. Images you export from a PDF are saved to your device's Pictures folder in a "PDF Viewer" album.
Editing: When you rearrange, rotate, or delete pages, the app saves the change to the file you opened. If the original file can't be changed, it saves a copy instead.
Passwords: A password you enter to protect or unlock a PDF is used only for that task and is never stored. Temporary unlocked copies are kept in the app's private cache, where other apps can't reach them.
Sharing and Printing: When you share or print a document, it goes only to the app, contact, or printer you choose.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
As you use the app, it saves your library and settings on your device:
What Is Stored: Your document library (file names, file locations, file sizes, page counts, when each document was added and last opened, starred documents, and the last page you read); your bookmarks and their labels; page preview thumbnails; your preferences, such as theme, reading mode, night reading, keep screen on, sort order, and list or grid view; and app state, such as whether you have finished onboarding, how many times the app has been opened, and when your ad-free pass expires.
Storage: This data is saved locally in the app's private storage on your device. We do not operate servers that receive or store it, and no account is needed to use the app.
Device Backup: If Android backup is turned on for your device, Android may include this app's data, including documents saved in the app's own storage, in your device backup to your Google Account. Those backups are governed by Google's privacy policy.
No Sale of Data: We do not sell or rent your data to third parties.
3. Permissions
Files and Storage (Optional): On Android 11 and later, the app asks for "All files access". On earlier versions, it asks for storage permission. The app uses this to find the PDFs on your device, show them in your library, and save changes you make to them. It looks only for PDF files. If you don't grant it, you can still open files with the system file picker or from other apps.
Camera: Used by the scanner to capture document pages and read QR codes, and to take photos for new PDFs. The camera preview is analyzed on your device to detect page edges and QR codes. No images or video are sent anywhere. The contents of a QR code are only shown to you, and are copied to your clipboard only if you tap Copy.
Photos: When you add images to a PDF or scan, the app uses Android's photo picker. The app can see only the photos you select, not your whole photo library.
Files from Other Apps: When you open a PDF from another app, such as a messaging app, browser, or file manager, or share a PDF to PDF Reader, the app can access only that file.
Internet: Used only for the ads, analytics, and app configuration described below. Your documents are never sent over the internet.
No Other Access: The app does not access your microphone, contacts, location, or messages.
4. Information Collected Automatically
Usage Analytics: Firebase Analytics records how features are used. For example, it records when a document is opened or created, a search is run, a bookmark is added, pages are edited, a document is shared or printed, or an ad is shown, along with which screens you visit and how long reading sessions last. Page counts, file sizes, and durations are recorded as ranges, such as "6–20 pages" or "1–5 minutes", not as exact values. These events never include document names, file paths, document contents, or what you search for.
Standard App Events: Firebase Analytics also automatically records standard app events, such as first opens, app sessions, and app updates, along with general device information like device model, operating system version, language, and approximate country.
App Configuration: The app downloads settings from Firebase Remote Config, such as whether ads are turned on. This request includes a Firebase installation ID and basic app and device information.
Device Identifiers: An app instance ID, a Firebase installation ID, and, where your device settings allow it, your advertising ID, used for analytics and advertising.
Crash Reports: The app does not include a separate crash-reporting service. If you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics data with Google, Google Play may provide us with crash and performance reports that do not identify you.
5. Advertising
Ads in the App: PDF Reader is free and supported by ads from Google AdMob. Ads may appear as a banner on the Home and Files screens, and as full-screen ads at certain moments, such as after you create a document or when you open or return to the app. Ads are never shown inside the reader or while you are editing or saving a document.
Ad-Free Pass (Optional): In Settings, you can choose to watch a rewarded video ad to use the app without ads for 24 hours. The pass's expiry time is stored only on your device.
What AdMob Collects: To show ads, measure their performance, and prevent fraud, AdMob may collect your advertising ID, IP address, device information, and how you interact with ads. Depending on your device settings and location, ads may be personalized. Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
What Advertisers Never Receive: Your documents, their names, their contents, and your reading history are never shared with advertisers.
6. Ratings
In-App Review: From time to time, the app may ask you to rate it using Google Play's in-app review prompt. Your rating and review go directly to Google Play. The app is not told whether you left a review.
7. Third-Party Services
We partner with standard infrastructure services to support app functionality:
Google Play Services: In-app reviews and supporting services for the features above (Google Privacy Policy).
8. Your Choices and Data Deletion
You can manage or delete your data at any time:
Permissions: You can revoke camera access in Android Settings → Apps → PDF Reader → Permissions, and All files access in Android Settings → Apps → Special app access → All files access. Features that rely on them stop working until you turn them back on.
In the App: You can remove documents from your recent list and clear page previews in Settings → Preview cache.
Advertising ID: You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in your device settings, under Settings → Google → Ads (or Settings → Privacy → Ads, depending on your device).
Delete On-Device Data: Uninstall the app, or go to Android Settings → Apps → PDF Reader → Storage → Clear storage. This permanently removes your library, bookmarks, settings, and any documents saved in the app's own storage, so move or share any documents you want to keep first. PDFs stored elsewhere on your device are not affected.
Analytics Data: This data is not linked to your name or email, and the app has no accounts. To request deletion of analytics data associated with your device, email support@blobatic.com.
9. Children's Privacy
PDF Reader is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Policy Updates
We may update this policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
